My middle-school daughter and I were organizing her bookshelf when I spied this series. The sight brought back memories of sitting in bed with her at night, reading the pages of these charming books together. My daughter had been struggling to find her footing with reading, and this series made a big difference. She relished the storylines. A year later, she was working on Harry Potter and Land of Stories–but I’ll always be so grateful to this series for kicking off that love of reading.
The Rescue Princesses combines the love of animals with the fantasy of being a princess. The series also emphasizes friendship, courage, and diversity–perfect for little girls (and hey, even boys) navigating the social structure of elementary school. There are 15 books total in the series, and the characters are connected throughout. That makes this a perfect series for a reader who will enjoy knowing that if she/he falls in love with the first book, plenty more will follow.
