Night of the Amber Moon

Both creepy and heartwarming, Night of the Amber Moon tells the story of 11-year-old Izzy, a girl with a hard problem. A story of dealing with guilt, the story leads readers on a journey to forgiveness, with just the right amount of suspense.

Hello Future Me

I was excited to pick this book up because it is so pretty! Although, right away, I knew the main character was going to be, well, a character. The voice and humor is strong in this story that includes friendship, magic, and dealing with life when adults are making decisions you don’t like.

Bob

The story proves magical, charming, and certainly amusing at points. Keep reading for the description of Bob, a monster in the closet like you’ve never imagined!

Klawde

Klawde is irreverent, silly, and laugh-out-loud funny. But best of all, it has the same beautiful messages of friendship distilled in its pages that are found in my most favorite children’s novels.

The Night Gardener

It’s that time of year when we’re all ready for something a little spooky, right? Well, I’ve got a few scary ideas for you, but I definitely want to mention The Night Gardener.

The Phantom Tower

What if you could take an elevator to visit the dead? If you’re intrigued by that idea, this book is for you. A little creepy but not too scary, The Phantom Tower will keep you on your toes as a set of twins tries to figure out the mystery behind their new Chicago apartment building.

Skeleton Tree

Skeleton Tree takes middle grade readers on a funny, heartwarming, and even heartbreaking ride. Talking about death is never easy, but this book takes a character through grief while enchanting us with a skeleton first growing in the back yard, then leading us on a merry chase.

Nightbooks

It’s creepy and funny and all things your child is going to love. A few scary stories (written by the main character himself) may have a few sensitive kiddos a little wound up, but those can be skipped if absolutely necessary (my daughter is still shivering when she talks about the “dog story”).
